West Corp. plans to hire more than 175 people for its call center in Rocky Mount.
The new positions are the result of increased demand from one of West's existing clients, a cable TV company, according to a news release from West.
West, based in Omaha, Neb., opened its call center in Rocky Mount in August 2005 with plans to hire 900. The company now employs 800people, said Dave Pleiss, vice president of investor and public relations for West.
To fill the positions, which pay $10 an hour, West will host job fairs from 8a.m. to 8p.m. Wednesday, and March4, at 1974 Stone Rose Drive in Rocky Mount. Applicants also may apply online at www.westemployment.com.
The company pulls fromEdgecombe and Nash counties for its employees, twoareas that have high unemployment.
In December, the most recent month for which data is available, the unemployment rate was 16.7percent in Edgecombe and 12.4percent in Nash.
