Sears AZ call center was evacuated for about 90 minutes Thursday morning after fumes from a nearby construction vehicle made some people sick, authorities said.
Seven people were transported to local hospitals and 25 more were treated on-scene due to effects from the fumes at 4755 S. Butterfield Drive, near South Palo Verde Road and East Irvington Road, said Anne-Marie Braswell, a Rural/Metro Fire Department spokeswoman.
The building in the Butterfield Business Center houses a call center for Sears, Braswell said.
More than 200 people were evacuated about 9 a.m. but were able to return to the building about 10:30 a.m.
A construction vehicle parked behind the building was left running and diesel fumes leaked into the building’s exhaust system, Sears spokeswoman Kim Freely said.
The Tucson Fire Department deployed its Metropolitan Medical Response Unit to assist Rural/Metro, and officials with Southwest Gas conducted a leak survey to see if natural gas played a part in the incident.
No leaks were found, Southwest spokeswoman Libby Howell said.
