Margie Herring, spokeswoman for Verizon Wireless call centers in the Carolinas, said none of the hundreds of employees here will be affected by the cuts, nor will any elsewhere in the Carolinas.
Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications, based in New York, and London-based Vodafone.
Verizon Communications Tuesday told analysts that it would record a loss in the fourth quarter because of the cuts of 13,000 employees. Though the company's wireline phone business is suffering, it said that the number of wireless customers added in the fourth quarter totaled 2.2 million, up from 1.2 million in the fourth quarter of 2008.
